Tornadoes are a deadly and almost unpredictable event. They are created from high winds during thunderstorms and other such fierce rain storms, as well as some times with flat out high winds. Explain any signs to tell you of a tornado that may appear. If any, explain a time that you remember going through, or seeing a tornado. This could include the sight of a funnel cloud or being close to where one hit.
One way to tell if a tornado may appear would be high winds and possibly a heavy cloud cover. Another sign could be the sight of a funnel cloud that may or may not be close to the ground. Being in a low tornado zone the closest thing to a tornado experience was when I saw a funnel cloud at the start of a rain storm last year. I remember feeling excited because I thought that something potentially exciting, and possibly dangerous, could possibly happen. Unfortunately the cloud didn't hit and make a tornado, but it was fun to look at while it lasted.
ReplyDeleteA way to tell if a tornado is forming is high winds. Another sign is hail. Usually they say it hails before a tornado. Thick clouds could be another sign. I have never seen or experienced a tornado before, and I never want to. They kind of scare me because they are so powerful. I remember on mothers day a couple of years ago, there was a really bad storm. Tornado warnings were every where around us. I was so scared.
ReplyDeleteI know when a tornado is approaching when I hear the train alert sound. I don't actually recall any that stood out to me. However, I do remember when the sudden one hit Elizabeth City, and struck the traffic light causing a clash of green light to flash across my face. It was terrifying.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time when tornadoes gives me a warning I am at school. It starts to give me signs when it looks dark outside at 12'noon. Everytime there is a warning or watch, it gives details at the bottom or top of the televison screen. That helps out a lot because it keeps me informed on the storm.
ReplyDeleteUsually when a tornado is on the way you can have some kind of idea. One way to tell is if the wind is rapidly changing directions. Hail is usually another way to tell, but the most obvious is the wind direction. I have only seen one funnel cloud form when I was going home from school one day in Weeksville but I didn't really know what it was so I wasn't scared.
ReplyDeleteWhen a tornado is about to hit there will large cloud cover and you might see funnels starting to come down but not all the way. I remember a couple times in middle school we had a couple of tornado warnings, and a tornado hit about a half mile from our school destroying some houses.
ReplyDeleteThere are many different ways to spot a tornado. Some of the signs I use are very high winds and if the sky is dark with a reddish tint, I know that a tornado might be coming. I've never experienced a real tornado, however I remember sitting in the uncomfortable tornado drill position for about two hours one time when I was little!
ReplyDeleteYou can tell when a tornado is about to form is when there is a very heavy cloud cover, the wind is picking up, and if it starts to hail. But the best way to tell if there is a tornado comming your way is to watch the news or listen to a radio.
ReplyDeleteYou can notice when a tornado might be forming when there is heavy cloud cover, high winds, and the distinct funnel cloud reaching for land. Every time there is a risk of a tornado, there is a watch or warning. Every time one comes on, I am at school, and never get to experience it.
ReplyDeleteIf you're not experienced or don't know what to look for, just watch for a warning on tv or listen to the radio. Or you can tell by dark, thick clouds, a funnel coming from clouds, and very high wind speed. I have never actually seen a tornado, but once at school we had to stay for an hour because of a warning.
ReplyDeleteThankfully I have never had to experience a tornado. Yet, if I ever was in that situation, I would look for unusual clouds in the sky. I would also check the television and the radio.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a actually full formed tornado in person before, but I have seen little funnel clouds about to drop down, but they always lift up before it actually turns into a tornado. Most of these sightings were in the desert. I have heard that you can tell a torndo is coming or near by listening very closely, they make a whislting sound like a train.
ReplyDeleteI have never actully been in a tornado but I have been as close to a mile away from one. One way to tell if a tornadoe is coming when it starts to rain really hard and it hails. and the sky just turns reall dark and the wind starts to blow really hard.
ReplyDeleteA giant spining cloud.
ReplyDeleteA tornado is formed by the collision of a high pressure system and a low pressure system. I watch a lot of the Storm Chasers shows on Discovery Channel and one thing they look for is a Wall Cloud. This is where it seems like the cloud is touching or is very close to touching ground. I also look for spirals traveling toward the ground. I have never actually experienced a tornado.
